The club has once again been invited to the Utahina Teams Tournament in Rotorua on August the 26th and this year have been asked to provide a C/D Grade team. We are joining with Hawkes Bay who have been asked to provide an A/B grade team and we will fill half of the two teams each. The tournament is doubles and mixed only and the trip is always a lot of fun no matter how well the badminton goes! To sign up contact Mike, for more info check out the Trips and Tournaments page.

There will be a NZ vs. Singapore test on the night of Tuesday the 8th of August at Arena Manawatu. This is the sort of badminton that Palmerston North rarely gets the opportunity to see and I urge anybody interested to go along, more details to come. Furthermore linespeople are required so if anybody who can help out with that could you please talk to Mike. 20-30 are required (10 every match) and you'll have the best seat in the house for free!

A half-year sub is now available for junior and senior members who wish to join the club for the remainder of the season. This sub is $25 for juniors and $50 for seniors and gives you all the benefits of being a club member and is still cheaper than paying a casual fee each night for the remainder of the season.

There will be no interclub on the 13th of July as the North Island Table Tennis Champs are in the B&M Centre and the World Junior Squash Champs have brought forward their setup dates meaning we can no longer play in Arena 2. The downloadble draws and the online viewable draw has been updated to reflect this change.

The first night of interclub seems to have gone pretty smoothly! I hope that all involved had some good games and you're all looking forward to the rest of the season. After much organising it is great to see everything come together, organising ten teams is no mean feat after all. Thanks must go to all the players for your co-operation and to the captains for ensuring things run smoothly, keep up the good work!

The interclub draw is now available both for download and for viewing online on the Interclub page. The full team lists are also available there.

The Manawatu Badminton Association requires volunteers for the Junior North Island Championships held from Sunday the 2nd to Friday the 7th of July at Arena Manawatu. This is a huge event and the 23rd time it has been run in Palmerston North. Without the help of volunteers this event could not possibly be staged and would undoubtedly head off to one of the larger cities. Volunteers are more specifically required for the individuals competition from the afternoon of Wednesday the 5th through to the morning of Friday the 7th. The work involves manning control desks and is interesting and by no means mundane! Any club members who would like to lend a hand please email Mike to find out more (or ring number on committee page).

Interclub is due to start very shortly! On Thursday the 25th of May interclub will begin for the 2006 season and we have entered 10 teams this year. Teams are mostly finalised but will not be announced till Monday the 22nd at which point they will also be posted on this website. If you are playing interclub then please make an effort to be present at club night on the Monday night to receive final instructions and team info. More info on the interclub page.

The rally point scoring system is here to stay! The International Badminton Federation decided at their recent AGM to permanently adopt the trial system, news which didn't come as too much surprise. In fact most of us were unaware the new system was merely a trial!

Club membership forms are available for download. These forms are also available at club nights.

The club will continue to operate as per usual on Easter Monday (17th of April), this includes both the junior and senior club. Think of it as justification for all the chocolate consumed over easter!

Interclub ranking games have now begun, these are being played predominately amongst the guys who wish to play B grade as we do not have enough women B grade players to accomodate all of them. We still have our fingers crossed that more women will join us soon!

The Badminton NZ Roadshow will be in Palmy on Thursday the 6th of April with anyone welcome to go along. It will be held from 6-8pm at the B&M Centre (Map) and involves New Zealand's top badminton players and coaching staff, including some of those at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. The evening will include demonstrations, tips for your game, as well as interactive coaching so bring your racquet. This is an opportunity not to be missed.

Interclub will be starting on the 25th of May. Seems our initial guess of 11th of May was a tad early but nevermind, more time to organise teams! So mark that date on the calendar and start honing that backhand, cross-court drop shot that we all wish we could do with our eyes closed. More details on the interclub preparation for 2006 on the interclub page.

Interclub ranking games will begin in the next couple of weeks as I need to begin to construct teams and interclub forms are sailing in thick and fast, good work!

The demonstration of the rally point scoring system which we gave recently has now given all club players an insight into how the system works. However, we don't expect you all to be experts overnight so I will endevour to create some sort of interactive tutorial over the next little while... watch this space!
- 21/03/2006:
-
Those who know the new rally point scoring system (see below) begun to use it at club nights on Monday and to informally teach it to others. It seems the time is ripe for a more formal demonstration of the new system! So, next Monday we will give a brief demonstration of it in action during a doubles game so that everyone will be experts by the time interclub rolls around.

Interclub is likely to begin on the 11th of May but this is nothing more than an educated guess on our part and I will endevour to confirm that date with those in the know very shortly. If you want to play interclub please ensure that you get your subs paid and interclub form in as quickly as possible, this gives us lots of time to construct teams.

The International Badminton Federation (IBF) has implemented a new scoring system which will slightly alter the way singles is played and drastically affect doubles and mixed doubles. Badminton New Zealand will be adopting the new system for all inter-association games (all representative badminton, including junior levels) and the Manawatu Badminton Association has chosen to adopt the new system for use during the interclub competition. Expect to hear more on this topic in the very near future! In the meantime check out the Badminton Court Officials website.

Apologies for the lack of information over the summer. We had problems with our web hosting which forced us to find an alternative, including our new web address. Many thanks to InSPire Net for being so accomodating towards us!
