TRIPS AND TOURNAMENTS

Throughout the year there are a number of tournaments that the club plays in.

Badminton Manawatu Closed Tournament

This tournament is open only to players in the Manawatu and is a serious competition sanctioned by Badminton New Zealand. Singles, doubles and mixed doubles are all played and there are five grades that can be entered including a Masters grade so this tournament will cater for all skill levels.

Waipukurau Teams Tournament

This is a mid-year invite only tournament which we are priveleged enough to be invited to. Other teams to be invited include a handful from Hawkes Bay and a team from Rotorua. Doubles and mixed doubles only, this tournament is as much about having a good time as it is about the badminton. It's always a great day and the hosts put on an excellent meal afterwards.

Utahina Teams Tournament

Also an invite tournament this one is held in August up in Rotorua and is also a huge amount of fun. Once again only doubles and mixed doubles but playing in a hall built especially for badminton is quite a treat. Normally a two night trip this host club has also been known to serve up an excellent meal and some good after- match entertainment. Breakfast is eaten on the shores of Lake Rotorua before heading home, anyone who has been on this trip will tell you it's not to be missed.

Te Awamutu Mixed Doubles Tournament

This tournament is open to anyone whether a member of the club or not however the club does not actively organise a trip to this tournament. It is mixed doubles only and you must organise your own partners.

Club Champs

This tournament is open to any paid members of the club. It runs across three grades with singles, doubles and mixed all being played, usually with doubles and mixed combinations being constructed across all the grades.

Regional Open Tournaments

Throughout the year various other New Zealand Badminton Associations will hold open tournaments which are open to players from any region. Hawkes Bay, Wanganui and Wellington hold such tournaments which members are welcome to enter. These will likely be serious tournaments similar to the Manawatu Badminton Closed Tournament and as such players must be full members of the club to enter. These tournaments may be mentioned closer to the time. Also keep an eye on the Badminton New Zealand website.
